Career Technical Education

Medical Assistant-Terminology
Introduction to medical terminology using words, prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, abbreviations and pronunciation. Anatomy includes body systems and structures. Recommended for all medical classes.

Medical Assistant- administrative skills (Front Office)
Communication skills, appointment scheduling, billing, accounts receivables, records, medical laws/ethics, banking, financial management, office skills and receptionist duties.

Medical Assistant- Clinical skills (Back Office)
Instruction and hands-on practice to acquire skills to assist physicians. Includes vital signs, surgical procedures, and medical office lab skills, administering medications, venipuncture, EKG, emergency procedures and nutrition. Externships opportunities available.

Medical Assistant- Certification Review
Review of terminology, anatomy, administrative and clinical skills to prepare students for the Certified Medical Assistant Exam.

Medical Billing and Coding
Instruction and hands-on practice in insurance coverage, claims, collections: computerized training in charges, payments, adjustments and deposits. Extensive ICD-9 and CPT coding for overall billing practices will be covered. Record keeping and medical office operations.
Basic medical classes or work experience required. Call for information.

Pharmacy Technician
Introduction to procedures, operations, drugs, medications, dosage forms/strengths, inventory control and assisting the pharmacist. Externship opportunities are available. This program meets the requirements for state certification.
Prerequisite: GED/HS Diploma, Medical terminology and adequate math skills.

 

 

Introduction to Computers
Students will learn basic computer hardware/software concepts and terminology along with hands-on computer software applications and instructional tools, as well as the features of a personal computer and its practical use.

MS Power Point (Presentation Program)
Students will learn proper procedures for creating a slide show using themes, editing, formatting, bulleted lists, background styles, layouts, clip art, photos, outlines, and action buttons.

MS Excel (Spreadsheet Program)
Students will learn proper Excel procedures emphasizing the worksheet development cycle. This exercise-oriented approach includes formulas, functions, charting, formatting, absolute cell references, worksheets, and what-if analysis..

MS Word (Word-processing Program)
Students will learn proper Word procedures by creating documents suitable for personal and professional use. This exercise-oriented approach includes flyers, research papers, resumes, cover letters, proposals containing charts and tables, and newsletters. (Recommended prerequisite: Keyboarding).

MS Publisher (Desktop Publishing Program)
Students will learn proper procedures for creating publications like flyers, newsletters, tri-fold brochrues, letterhead, envelopes, business cards and forms, and tables.

Office Skills and Business Communications
Prepares students for entry-level professional office employment. Instruction involves various "soft" skills including inter-personal relations, business ethics, filing and organization, job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, employment interview techniques, business communications, and phone etiquette. Recommended prerequisites: Basic keyboarding and MS Word.

 

Older Adults Programs

Computer Basics for seniors
Introduction to basic computer terminology, keyboard and mouse operations, the Internet, e-mail, basic word processing and Windows. No prior computer experience is necessary.
