Career Technical Education

Medical Assistant-Terminology
Introduction to medical terminology using words, prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, abbreviations and pronunciation. Anatomy includes body systems and structures.
Recommended for all medical classes.

Medical Assistant- administrative skills (Front Office)
Communication skills, appointment scheduling, billing, accounts receivables, records, medical laws/ethics, banking, financial management, office skills and receptionist duties.

Medical Assistant- Clinical skills (Back Office)
Instruction and hands-on practice to acquire skills to assist physicians. Includes vital signs, surgical procedures, and medical office lab skills, administering medications, venipuncture, EKG, emergency procedures and nutrition. Externships opportunities available.

Medical Assistant- Certification Review
Review of terminology, anatomy, administrative and clinical skills to prepare students for the Certified Medical Assistant Exam.

Medical Billing and Coding
Instruction and hands-on practice in insurance coverage, claims, collections: computerized training in charges, payments, adjustments and deposits. Extensive ICD-9 and CPT coding for overall billing practices will be covered. Record keeping and medical office operations.
Basic medical classes or work experience required. Call for information.

Pharmacy Technician
Introduction to procedures, operations, drugs, medications, dosage forms/strengths, inventory control and assisting the pharmacist. Externship opportunities are available. This program meets the requirements for state certification.
Prerequisite: GED/HS Diploma, Medical terminology and adequate math skills.

Veterinary Assistant-1
Instruction in skills required for entry-level positions in the veterinary field that includes terminology, anatomy, breed identification, handling, animal behavior and introduction to administering meds and injections. Externship opportunities are possible.

Veterinary Assistant-2
Instruction in skills for mid-level veterinary field positions that includes advanced anatomy, advanced surgical assistance, emergency care, veterinary phlebotomy, basic large animal nursing, exotics, wildlife and primate basic care.
Prerequisite: Vet Assistant-1 or work experience

Home Health Aide Certification for CNAs:
This course is open to licensed certified nurses aids only (must present valid CAN card at time of registration). Designed to give CNAs necessary skills to provide in-home care for the elderly or disabled patients and/or home-bound convalescents.
Keyboarding
Introduction to proper typing techniques/ touch control to build typing skills and accuracy using the computer’s keyboard. Intermediate students are encouraged to enroll to build their typing speed. Typing test cards will be awarded

Introduction to Computers
The components of a computer, information processing cycle, the Internet and World Wide Web., E-mail, application software, components of the system unit, input and output, storage media, file management, operating systems and utility programs, virus protection, troubleshooting and maintenance and Windows.

Windows Basics
Learn the basics of operating a personal computer through hands-on practice using Windows. Topics include computer terminology, desktop, taskbar, control panel, text editing and formatting, file management, saving and printing. No previous computer experience required

Introduction to Microsoft Office
Introduction to the main applications of Microsoft Office: Word (word processing); Excel (spreadsheets); Access (databases); and Power point (presentation) through lecture and hands-on practice. Basic understanding of computers and Windows is recommended.

MS Power Point (Presentation Program)
Using a design template and text slide layout to create a presentation using the outline table and clip art to create a slide show, using visuals to enhance a slide show, modifying visual elements and presentation formats.

MS Excel (Spreadsheet Program)
Creating a worksheet and an embedded chart, formulas, functions, formatting and web queries, what-if analysis, charting, financial functions, data tables and amortization schedules. Creating, sorting and querying a list. Creating templates and working with multiple worksheets.

MS Word (Word-processing Program)
Creating and editing a word document, a research paper, a resume and cover letter using a wizard. Creating documents with a table, charts and watermark. Generating form letters, and mail merge. Creating a professional newsletter.

MS Publisher (Desktop Publishing Program)
Creating and editing a publication, designing a newsletter, publishing a tri-fold brochure, creating business forms and tables.

Office Skills and Business Communications
Students are prepared for entry-level positions in an office environment. Instruction includes filing, office machines, job and interview skills, resume preparation, business letter writing, and phone etiquette.

Spanish for the Workplace
Introduction to vocabulary and pronunciation for communicating with Spanish speaking individuals, and understanding the Spanish culture. All interested students may enroll.

 

Community Classes

Movie Magic
Learn how to create an electronic scrapbook from your family photos, download pictures from a digital camera, scan and edit pictures. This class will teach students how to capture videos and music and create a DVD movie to take home.

Beginning Golf
A fun introduction to what could be a source of life-long enjoyment. The course will offer individualized group instruction from local pro Steve Whitson at Rancho Sierra Golf Club. Some clubs are available for use during class. Men, women, families and teens are welcome.

Parenting and Consumer Awareness

CPR
This course targets all rescuers in the community to provide early CPR to increase survival from sudden cardiac arrest. It teaches the warning signs of a heart attach and stroke in adults and methods to reduce death caused by sudden infant death syndrome.

Parenting Seminars
Communication techniques to encourage children and parents to talk and listen to each other in respectful and effective ways, plus positive techniques for disciplining children at all stages of development.

Older Adults Programs

Computer Basics for seniors
Introduction to basic computer terminology, keyboard and mouse operations, the Internet, e-mail, basic word processing and Windows. No prior computer experience is necessary.
